Saw this book. Stickwork, by Patrick Dougherty, when I stumbled upon a Dick Blick Art Supplies store on Bond Street between Broadway and Lafayette recently. I don’t know how long it’s been there.

The book caught my eye because I’d seen one of Patrick Dougherty’s installations in, I guess, 2010. He created it for the Brooklyn Botanical Garden’s 100th anniversary. I love this, although at first I was ambivalent:

The reason it makes it to this blog is the page in his book about his installation Sleepwalking. I can’t find an image for it, but I did find (and later noticed it’s in the book) Childhood Dreams, installed at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix.

In a video about it from the PBS station in Phoenix, Dougherty says he thinks it looks like a cactus, appropriate to the setting…but I don’t think he explains the title Childhood Dreams. If he does, I missed it:
